Kampos - Thymiana - Tholopotami - Nenita - Katarraktis

Duration
43 minutes
Distance (km)
25.4 km

Accompanied by the fragrant scent of the citrus fruits of Kampos, we travel to the flat part of the island which once, many millions of years ago, was mostly a lake. Along the route, we will encounter the famous “thymianousiki” stone and be familiar with its uses, visit significant religious monuments intertwined with Chios' past, and learn about the role that geology and tectonics play on the island today. We will pass through colorful landscapes, hosting significant paleontological finds, ashes from volcanic eruptions that occurred in geological time, and remnants of the ancient Tethys Ocean. With the final scents from the Botanical Garden of the Aegean in Nenita, the geotrail ends at the small fishing village of Kataraktis, for fresh fish and a chance to swim in the crystal-clear waters of the beach.
