This path starts 800 meters past the helipad and moves along the western slopes of the volcano. It leads to the bay of Katéros, a unique space, isolated from any recent human activity, which until the mid-20th century was cultivated by residents of Mandraki. The beginning of the route is very interesting as it crosses in the Valley of the Heart and esitic lava flows and olderash horizons of Nisyros (site 7.1).
Subsequently, the path moves over the newer lavas of the volcano, the argillites of the Karaviótis dome. In Katéros (site 7.2), cave houses and churches are preserved, and visible traces of habitation from ancient times. Numerous fragments of ancient amphorae for transporting wine indicate intensive vineyard cultivation and serious wine production during the classical and Hellenistic periods. This path is minimally marked and the middle section is difficult to distinguish. Therefore, those who do not use a satellite compass (GPS) and the corresponding file available from www.geoportal.gr must be particularly careful.
